The FPL news you might've missed (22/05 - 29/05)

Apparently - and it's only a rumour at this stage - Premier League clubs continue to operate even after FPL has finished. I know: I was shocked too. Here's the big footballing news this week.

The Big News📢

- Liverpool have lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid 0-1. That's 3/3 finals this season in which they've failed to score.

- Nottingham Forest will play in the Premier League next season after beating Huddersfield 1-0 in today's play-off final.

- Sadio Mane is poised to leave Liverpool this summer.

- Ivan Perisic has reportedly agreed to join Spurs.

- Ralf Rangnick will NOT stay on as a consultant at Man United, despite the original agreement.

Confirmed Transfers This Week 📄

Though the transfer window doesn't open until June 10th, hands are already being shooketh.

Here are the transfers (the real-life kind) that you might've missed.

- Leeds have signed attacking midfielder Brendan Aaronson from RB Salzberg. He's American and has already played under Marsch. He scored 9 goals across two seasons for Salzberg, so don't expect fireworks.

- Aston Villa have signed centre-back Diego Carlos from Sevilla. The Brazilian was coveted by Newcastle in January, but the £28m man becomes Villa's third signing this spring, after Philippe Coutinho made his loan move permanent and midfielder Boubacar Kamara joined on a free from Marseilles.

- Liverpool have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old Fabio Carvalho. This guy looks great, but it'll probably be some time before we see him making regular first team appearances.

The Rumour Mill 🗣

This is where we fill you in on the stuff that might happen in football, ranging from the "probably going to happen" to the "completely bonkers", and everything in between. We'll always provide a source, but we can't legislate for the validity of some of these.

- Spurs are set to beat Chelsea and Juventus to sign Ivan Perisic, according to pretty much every media outlet. Apparently an offer has been accepted by the Croatian, and this one is pretty much a done deal.

- Fabrizio Romano (who is always right about this stuff) has tweeted that Sadio Mane will be leaving Liverpool this summer.

- According to the Guardian and other sources, Eddie Nketiah has agreed to stay at Arsenal by signing a new 5-year contract. Could he be their first choice up top next season? Well...

- Gabriel Jesus could be joining the Gunners. The Express has reported that he'll "most likely" be their biggest signing this summer.

- The Sun reports that Chelsea have been told they'll need to cough up £45m for Marc Cucurella (you know, the Brighton full-back with the incredible hair). He plays on Marcus Alonso's side, incidentally. (Apparently Man City are also interested, but Cucurella himself has played down those rumours.)

- The Daily Mail have said PSG and Real Madrid are interested in signing Everton hero Richarlison.

- Southampton shot-stopper Fraser Forster will probably join Spurs on a free according to the BBC and other sources.

Planning Ahead 🔮

Hey - it's never too soon.

Here's a helpful tweet from FPL_Junkie, who laid out the schedule for next season:

Worried yet? Don't. We've got your back.

The pre-season can be boring, so let's spice it up a little.

If you're reading this, and you also happen to know a bit about football, hit "reply" right now and give us your best footballing fact. We'll share the most surprising ones at the bottom of each pre-season email.

Here's one to get those juices flowing: did you know Erling Haaland was born in Leeds? Well, he was. It'll be an emotional return to his homeland when Man City pump them at Elland Road next season.

And on that note, we'll say goodbye. Until next Sunday, of course.

Cheers,

The FPLTips Team.
