The FPL News you Might've Missed (19/06 - 26/06)

This week's quick summary:

- FPL won't launch until July

- Nottingham Forest break their transfer record

- Arsenal make some moves, Vieira signed, Jesus close

- Nick Pope and Dean Henderson also on the move

- Lukaku likely to go back to Inter

- Pogba likely to go back to Juventus

As we mentioned in Thursday's Secret Email, this should've been the week that FPL opened its doors and let in the hoards of clamouring managers looking to build their first drafts.

We imagined Black Friday scenes: stampedes of stats sages trampling each other in a desperate attempt to be the first to get to the Salah aisle (and foolishly ignoring the Son Heung-min aisle in the process, as is Gameweek 1 tradition).

But alas - we'll have to wait at least another week before we can finally stop pretending to be friends and start plotting each other's fantasy football demise once again.

FPL managers have taken it well. One chap even took to analysing the underlying stats of previous season's game releases.

These are indeed desperate times.

Elsewhere, it's been a busy week. Apparently football doesn't pause even when its demented fantasy cousin is on hold. Let's look at what's happened.

The Done Deals

Attacking Midfielder Fabio Vieira has completed his transfer to Arsenal, joining from FC Porto for a reported £34m.

Sorry Arsenal fans, but we enjoyed this pic.

Nottingham Forest have broken their transfer record to sign striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin, who joins for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £17.5m.

The Nigerian scored 20 goals across 43 games in all competitions last season.

Sadio Mane
has gone to Munich. After about three weeks of mentioning it in every email, we can finally put it to bed.

Bayern were pretty understated about his arrival...you'd barely know a transfer had been completed.

Some goalkeeper news, which we'll roll into one section.

Firstly, Nick Pope - an FPL legend if ever there was one - has gone to the richest club in the world: Newcastle. It's for an undisclosed fee, which means it's probably in the region of about £230m.

Secondly, Dean Henderson's wikipedia might say he still plays for Man United, but a loan deal to Nottingham Forest is more or less a done deal.

Remember that goalkeeper rotation we mentioned last week? It could be on...

A few weeks ago one of our subscribers replied to tell us that he liked the weekly emails, but wished there was more West Ham content. Well Charlie, you're in luck.

Moroccan centre-back Nayef Aguerd has joined the Hammers from Rennes for £30m. His stats from last season are about what you'd expect from a centre-back.

We hope you're sat down, Charlie, because there's even more West Ham news. Ryan Fredericks (the full-back who might've sat on your bench last season) has joined Bournemouth on a free transfer.

Bloody hell Charlie, you must be hyperventilating at this point.

The Rumour Mill

Two players are leaving the Premier League and returning to their former clubs, if multiple, reliable sources are to be believed.

Firstly, Romelu Lukaku is heading back to Inter, making him arguably the biggest Premier League flop of all time (your suggestions for alternatives are welcome).

Secondly, Paul Pogba is leaving Manchester United...to go back to Juventus. #Pogbackback.

This is less of a rumour and more of a done-deal-in-the-making. It's such a done deal, in fact, that Erling Haaland is reportedly eyeing up his Manchester house, according to multiple sources. Let's hope he leaves it in a passable state.

Man United have stated that Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale, after Chelsea have expressed their interest.

Elsewhere, Talksport have reported that United expect to have signed Frenkie De Jong by 30th June.  They are, according to basically every publication that writes about football, closing in on the Dutchman.

___

Sky Sports reports that Man City have "agreed a transfer deal" to sign Kalvin Phillips for somewhere between £45 - £50m.

This is the sort of rumour where plenty of pundits are already discussing his potential impact at Man City, rather than whether the deal will actually go ahead. It looks like a done deal in the making.

Arsenal have agreed a "deal in principle" with Gabriel Jesus for £45m, according to plenty of sources. He'll be an interesting FPL option if the move is confirmed.

The Gunners are still pushing for Raphinha...from now on, just assume they're always pushing unless we update you otherwise.

Looking Ahead

There's this new phenomenon the kids are talking about. It's called "tick tock" and apparently it's all the rage.

Well, our friends at fplgraduates rack up a ridiculous number of views on there. They've recently had 248,000 views on the news that Nelson Semedo will be out for the start of the 22/23 season, which presumably makes Rayan Ait-Nouri nailed. Yup: 248,000 views. Imagine how many views they'll rack up when there's some genuinely big news to share.

If you're also down with the kids, you should check them out 🤙
